Mike Doughty and Musical Taste
June 14 / 7AM
I'm not the same person I was ten years ago. Is anyone?
Different hair-do, different job, different friends. And different music. At times, I'll throw on Tool or Alice in Chains for a little nostalgia. It takes me back to my pony-tailed days when I wore all black, had a closet full of Nine Inch Nails T-shirts, and worked a god-awful job in the WalMart shoe department (a size 7 ma'am? Maybe when you were 14!).
I'm less angry now (I think) than during my days as an obviously confused and deluded teenager. Since then, few bands have stuck with me. Few artists have had indefinite replay value. But Soul Coughing has always been the exception, and out of my love for them, a love for Mike Doughty's music. It's fun, accessible, and deceptively simple. He's grown well-beyond the days of Soul Coughing's 5 percent nation.
Which I guess means that I have too.
He plays Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel in Providence tonight. Check him out if you're in the area.

GREAT GREAT show. I'm happy I could see it with you and Karrie- because you guys are the best of course :) Hopefully I didn't scare you too much.. I tried to behave. Mike Doughty just makes me giddy, i'm the same as you, Soul Coughing & Mike Doughty is one of the very few bands/people that has stuck with me over the years.
